The two are [...] http://yarnbombing.com/ (click to enlarge) This excellent street poster reminded me of the time I met Colonel Sanders. I was a kid, maybe 12 years old, on a family road trip from Newfoundland to PEI. We stopped at a kids’ summer camp locally known as a “tard camp” (yeesh), and there was the Colonel himself, hands resting on the cane, dressed in all whites and a good ol’ Tennessee string tie. Weird vibe. He was passing out tiny red plastic sculptures of himself, which I found very disturbing: his own set of avatars, poised to infiltrate rural Canada from the homes of developmentally delayed children. OK, they were banks: each tiny Colonel had a narrow slit in the top of his head. -Bruce Howdy! My name is Justin Longoz. I’m an animator, illustrator and designer here at Global Mechanic. I thought for my first “big deal” post I’d talk a little bit about the design that I did for the Darfur PSA (which i’ve embedded at the end of this post). It was quite the process, I’ll say that much. We were asked to design an animation that looked like the drawings that were coming from the children in Darfur. Man oh man. Some of those drawings were downright freaky. There were things being depicted in the children’s art that kids just shouldn’t have to see. All that I can say is that this job was a bit of an eye opener for me. I had many sleepless nights. I got to work right away trying to replicate the line and color content of the illustrations.
