Jono Howard, author of A Sweet Story
(Now days away from launching our latest project, A Sweet Story, I thought it apropos to repost an interview our social media guru Vish did with the book’s author Jono Howard this past summer. Enjoy!)
We’ve been working away on our latest interactive ebook for kids, A Sweet Story, As we make our way through the workflow, I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to everyone who’s been working on it, including Kris&Brake (the coders) and now, Jono Howard, the accomplished writer behind this very sweet story about a boy and his relationship to food.

Looking over Zac Green's shoulder, as he animates
As promised, here’s Part 2 (read Part 1) of my interview with Zachary Green and Kyle Sharpe, two recent graduates of CNA’s Digital Animation program in Stephenville, NF. Find out about what it’s been like for Zac and Kyle to work on Impromptu and in animation in general.
"The hub" at the Media Arts Centre where Zac and Kyle animate scenes for Impromptu
Out latest 3D short (co-produced with the NFB) is truly a coast-to-coast Canadian production. Not solely because the NFB is headquartered in Ottawa while we’re in Vancouver; nor because Chuck’s dinner party menu is filled with coastal dishes (mmm lobster and mussles, oh my!); Impromptu‘s animation staff, too, spans across Canada, too!
While we have our core crew working on the film in-house, we’ve also brought on two animators from Newfoundland. I interviewed Kyle Sharpe and Zachary Green last week and got a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to animate a 3D animated film, work on a project from a distance, and overall, navigate the Canadian animation industry as a recent graduate. Read the first part of my interview with Zac and Kyle.
Global Mechanic Media has teamed up with Newfoundland animators for the the 3D animated short Impromptu. This week, we bring you an exclusive interview with the man who’s heading this collaboration from the east coast: James Grace.

As part of a coast-to-coast collaboration, 2 CNA graduates are working on animating scenes in Impromptu
We’re happy to announce that Impromptu, the short film we’re working on with the NFB, is actually turning into a true coast-to-coast Canadian short film production. While we already have NFB producers from the east working on the film with our team here from Vancouver, we now also have two animators who hail from the true east coast: Newfoundland.
