THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: No. 7 - THOU SHALT NOT STEAL

Today we’ have the third short in The Ten Commandments series, number 7: Thou Shalt Not Steal. This one was a bit of a challenge. Banana’s aren’t exactly easy to animate. They don’t stand up. Who knew? But the sets were a lot of fun to make and we had a great time shooting this one. We hope you enjoy it:

More commandments shorts are in the works. We’re 3 down with 7 more to go!

Getting my hands dirty at Leeside...

The hard work and dedication of a handful of strong-backed volunteers (like myself) and skilled concrete finishers continues to produce a unique piece of art in a tunnel on Vancouver’s east side.  Leeside is like a DIY sculpture project designed for skateboarding that’s constantly evolving.  Here are some recent shots of the work we’ve been doing down at the spot over the last few months:

For some more info here’s a short documentary on Leeside produced by Thor Larson:

LEESIDE IS AT CASSIAR AND EAST HASTINGS IN VANCOUVER. HERE IS THE GOOGLE MAPS LINK.

Brent Bouchard Takes Us to the Doctor's Office

Global Mechanic’s own Brent Bouchard brings us a series of really really short films that take place in a doctor’s office. The timing on these is really great. I’m fond of the horse one myself. Take a look at the first 3 shorts in the series:

KEEPING IT HOLY: BEHIND THE SCENES

How dee,
Today we’re going to be showing you some production stills from the last 10 commandments short. It was a hairy shoot. We thought we would try and get the video out before the super bowl (because of the football theme) so we only had a week to finalize the idea, make props, test shoot, shoot and then do the editing and foley. It was a challenge to say the least, but we got it done and we’re proud of what came out the other side. Take a look at some of our photos (the quality isn’t exactly fantastic. We were using the nice camera to make the film so i just used my iphone for these stills):

So there you have the basic layout of the set and some of the art room. The two are [...]

The Ten Commandments: No. 3 - Keep Holy The Sabbath Day

Today we have the second short in a series of films we’re calling The Ten Commandments. This short illustrates commandment number 3: Keep Holy the Sabbath Day. We’ve managed to cram in a little bit of a topical theme this time. Can you figure out what it is? Duuuuh… Hope you enjoy it:

Keep Holy the Sabbath Day was made by 1998 creative and was produced in studio by Global Mechanic. 1998 creative is: Chris Mckinlay, Justin Longoz and Patrick Beechinor.

Stick around, we have more commandment videos on the way.

Outdoor Stop-motion Sketches 01: The Wild Labrador

I love fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon, which I sometimes do in Labrador. Woods, rocks, flies: this stop-motion sketch shows the 3 iconic elements of the place. Should be more flies really.

FRIDAY NIGHT FEVER LEADS TO SATURDAY MORNING NOSTALGIA

This excellent street poster reminded me of the time I met Colonel Sanders. I was a kid, maybe 12 years old, on a family road trip from Newfoundland to PEI. We stopped at a kids’ summer camp locally known as a “tard camp” (yeesh), and there was the Colonel himself, hands resting on the cane, dressed in all whites and a good ol’ Tennessee string tie. Weird vibe. He was passing out tiny red plastic sculptures of himself, which I found very disturbing: his own set of avatars, poised to infiltrate rural Canada from the homes of developmentally delayed children. OK, they were banks: each tiny Colonel had a narrow slit in the top of his head.
